BSAC School Diver Grades in the SEAL Program.
The BSAC School
Diver Grades have been developed to fit closely the needs of the diver who
prefers to go to a school for initial training and it is designed to build
confidence and self-reliance, whilst keeping safety uppermost.

BASIC SNORKEL DIVER
Basic Snorkel
Diver – anyone trained to use the basic snorkeling equipment of mask,
fins and snorkel in a pool environment.
COURSE AIMS:
This course is
designed to give people the opportunity to experience the use of basic snorkeling
equipment and to learn the techniques needed to perform snorkel
diving safely.
All training will
be carried out in the safety of a swimming pool / confined water.

Snorkel Diver - this course is a follow-on to the BSAC Basic Snorkel Diver
course.
COURSE
AIMS :
This course will expand on your
snorkelling skills and introduce you to snorkelling in open water. It will
also give you some basic knowledge on safety and snorkelling techniques.
If you wish the BSAC Basic
Snorkel Diver and the Snorkel Diver courses can be combined into one.
STUDENT ENTRY REQUIREMENT :

completed a BSAC Basic Snorkel Diver Course (if not a combined course)

COURSE
DURATION :
the
duration of this course is 3 hours, 1 hour theory and 2 hours practical

The Experience Scuba course is
your introduction to the underwater world and the chance to sample the first
grade in the BSAC range of scuba diver training programs.
THE COURSE :
The BSAC Experience Scuba course
is divided into two parts:
one
theory lessons
one
pool or, sheltered water dive
COURSE DURATION :
theory 2 hours
practical 1 hour
COURSE AIMS :
to
give none divers the opportunity to experience Scuba
to
determine if it’s a sport you like and might wish to take more seriously
by proceeding to enroll for the BSAC Ocean Diver course
Note : the above
Experience Scuba lesson and dive, count towards the Ocean Diver course, if
you chose to proceed.
Ocean
Diver this qualification is the first
grade in the BSAC range of scuba diver training programs.
THE COURSE :
The
BSAC Ocean Diver course is of 5 day duration and is divided into four sections :
5 theory lessons
1 theory assessment
5 Pool Dives and swimming assessment
5 open water dives
COURSE AIMS :
To
produce a diver who has gained open water diving experience and is considered ready to
take part in dives partnered by a diver of the same, or higher grade.
The BSAC Ocean Diver is restricted to a maximum depth of 20
metres.
STUDENT ENTRY REQUIREMENT :
must complete and sign a medical declaration
be a minimum age of 12 years and, have parental consent if a minor
QUALIFICATION :
The BSAC Ocean Diver
qualification is recognized worldwide.

From Ocean Diver
qualification your next step up through the BSAC range of training
programs, is the
Sports Diver qualification.
THE COURSE :
The BSAC Sports Diver
course is of three days duration and is divided into four sections :
3 theory lessons
2 pool or, sheltered water lessons
4 open water dives
Sport Diver theory assessment
COURSE AIMS :
The aim of this course is to produce a diver who has gained openwater diving and rescue experience and is considered ready to take part in dives
partnered by another diver.
Sports Divers who have gained the qualification of BSAC Assistant Club
Instructor may partner BSAC Club Divers on branch dives to the approval of the branch
Diving Officer (DO).
BSAC Sports Divers are restricted to a maximum depth of 35
metres.
STUDENT ENTRY REQUIREMENT :
must be rated as a Club Diver or Ocean Diver
must hold a fitness to dive medical sign by a doctor
must join BSAC as a full member through a branch or direct, before the qualification is
awarded

THE COURSE :
The BSAC Dive Leader course is of four days duration and is
divided into four sections :

6 open water dives
rescue scenarios
theory assessment & skills assessment
COURSE AIMS :
To produce an active,
experienced and responsible diver competent in dive leadership and rescue skills, who may
lead others on open-water dives.
STUDENT ENTRY REQUIREMENT :
must have a minimum of 20 open water dives, since Sports
Diver
must join BSAC and a club branch
must hold a fitness to dive medical signed by a doctor
must be SPORTS DIVER level or, equivalent
Note : Dive Leader grade is an entry level for the BSAC CLUB INSTRUCTOR exam.
RESCUE SCENARIOS :
Can be completed as a
SKILL DEVELOPMENT COURSE (SDC) via the PRACTICAL RESCUE MANAGEMENT COURSE, which is a
mandatory course leading towards BSAC Advanced Diver Grade.

After gaining the BSAC
Dive Leader qualification, the next level would be the Advanced Diver qualification.
THE COURSE :
This course is designed to
introduce you to new topics and skills to enable you to achieve the above aims. The
Advanced Diver course is divided into individual Skill Development (SD) courses.
There are 3 mandatory courses and 4 optional courses. The optional
courses are sub-divided into 2 groups ( group A & group B ) of which you only need to
complete any 2 from any group, depending on your particular interest.
COURSE AIMS :
The Advanced Diver
qualification is considered to be a fully trained diver.
He or she, will have a good level of diving knowledge and practical diving
experience; in addition the Advanced Diver should be capable of arranging dives for groups
of divers at branch level.
STUDENT ENTRY
REQUIREMENT :
qualified Dive Leader (DL)
must be a member of BSAC and a member of a branch
must have 20 logged dives since qualifying as a Dive Leader
must hold a fitness to dive medical signed by a doctor
